Uploading Your First PDF

Upload a PDF document to begin the accessibility remediation process. RemeDocs supports both scanned PDFs and digital documents.

  1. Log in to your RemeDocs dashboard
  2. Click the large "Upload PDF" button in the center of the dashboard
  3. Select a PDF file from your computer (maximum 100 MB)
  4. Optionally add a descriptive name for your document

Tip: RemeDocs works best with PDFs that are between 10 and 500 pages. Very large files may take longer to process. For multi-document projects, consider using batch processing.

Supported file formats: PDF (.pdf), including password-protected PDFs, scanned documents, and forms.

3

Understanding the Accessibility Report

After processing (typically 30 seconds to 5 minutes), RemeDocs generates a detailed accessibility report showing issues and recommendations.

The report includes:

  • Accessibility Score: A 0-100 rating of your PDF's accessibility level
  • WCAG 2.1 Compliance: Evaluation against Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (AA and AAA levels)
  • PDF/UA Compliance: ISO 14289 universal accessibility standard
  • Critical Issues: Missing alt text, untagged images, improper heading structure
  • Major Issues: Poor reading order, empty table headers, incorrect language declarations
  • Minor Issues: Inconsistent formatting, missing metadata

Each issue includes:

  • The specific location in your PDF (page number)
  • Impact severity (critical, major, minor)
  • AI-generated description of the problem
  • Recommended remediation action
Important: The report is not automatically applied to your PDF. The next step shows you how to remediate your document.
4

Remediating Your Document

RemeDocs uses AI-powered remediation to automatically fix accessibility issues in your PDF. Review and customize the remediation recommendations before applying them.

  1. In the report view, click the "Start Remediation" button
  2. RemeDocs analyzes each issue and proposes AI-generated fixes:
    • Alt Text: Automatically generates descriptive alt text for images using AI vision
    • Tags: Creates proper PDF tag structure (headings, paragraphs, lists, tables)
    • Reading Order: Establishes logical reading order for assistive technologies
    • Tables: Fixes table headers, cell associations, and structure
    • Language: Sets document language declaration for screen readers
    • Metadata: Adds title, author, subject, and other document metadata
  3. Review each proposed fix. You can accept, edit, or skip any remediation
  4. For critical issues, remediation is mandatory before downloading
  5. Click "Apply Remediations" to confirm all changes
Tip: RemeDocs' AI is highly accurate for images and structure. For specialized content (technical diagrams, charts), you may want to customize the auto-generated alt text for maximum clarity.
5

Downloading the Compliant PDF

Once remediation is complete, download your accessible PDF document in multiple formats.

  1. After applying remediations, you'll see a "Download" section
  2. Choose your preferred format:
    • Accessible PDF: Full PDF/UA compliant version with all tags and metadata
    • Original PDF: Your unmodified original for reference
    • Report PDF: Detailed accessibility report as a PDF document
  3. Click "Download [Format]" to save to your computer
  4. The remediated PDF is ready to distribute to users, students, or stakeholders
Storage: Your documents are stored securely on RemeDocs servers. Downloaded files are yours to use. PDFs are automatically deleted after 30 days if not accessed.
6

Setting Up Batch Processing

Remediate multiple PDFs at once using our batch processing feature, included in any engagement that needs it.

  1. From your dashboard, click "Batch Upload"
  2. Select multiple PDF files (up to 50 at once) or drag-and-drop them
  3. Optionally configure batch settings:
    • Auto-remediate: Automatically apply all recommended fixes
    • Quality level: Balance between speed and accuracy
    • Priority: Standard or express processing
    • Output folder: Where remediated PDFs are saved
  4. Click "Start Batch Processing"
  5. RemeDocs processes all PDFs in parallel. You'll receive an email when complete
  6. Download all remediated PDFs as a ZIP file

Batch limits: Your engagement is scoped to your monthly volume — there are no hidden caps inside that ceiling.

Tip: Batch processing is ideal for compliance projects, document workflows, or updating large document libraries. A typical batch of 10 PDFs completes in 10-20 minutes.
